Midwest Youth Hockey Association was formed in the fall of 2006 with the intention of providing children from Northwest Indiana the opportunity to learn, compete, and enjoy the game of ice hockey. The Blackbirds were founded on the principles of a strong commitment to skill development, promotion of sportsmanship and fair play, and an unmatched work ethic.

When you join MYHA you are putting your child in a position to learn more than just the game of hockey. Dedication, discipline, and a strong desire to compete will be instilled in each of our aspiring athletes through a regimented curriculum focused on optimizing the performance of the individual, and above all, our teams.

To become a hockey player, you need to learn how to skate first! Our Developmental Hockey program is comprised of 5 levels. All new students begin in our Learn to Skate (LTS) program. Once they've mastered the basics of skating, the next step is getting hockey gear. Students can either register for Little Blackhawks (a full set of new gear is included in registration) OR you can purchase your own equipment.

The next step is to enroll in our Learn to Play (LTP) ADM Developmental Hockey program. Please note, students must be approved by a head hockey staff coach before they move from LTS into LTP.

LTP students will learn a variety of hockey-oriented drills in a station-based setting. After graduating from LTP, students are eligible to join our Blackbirds Wings program. This final step introduces players into exhibition game play to help prepare them to be on a hockey team!

MTIC offers adult hockey leagues for both recreational and competitive players ages 18 and older. The 30 and Over “Draft League” consists of teams drafted as evenly as possible with games played on Sunday mornings. Our Fall Draft League starts October 13th and runs through December 22nd. All players must be registered with USA Hockey prior to playing in any league at Midwest.

Adult Learn to Play is ideal for anyone ages 18 & up interested in learning the game of ice hockey. Proper skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting skills are emphasized in each session. Each session consists of 45-60 minutes of skill development drills and 30-45 minutes of scrimmage time. Limited equipment is available if needed.

Learn to Play takes place on Friday nights from 10:30pm-12:00am. This is a drop-in session, $10/person. Please note, this schedule is subject to change. To confirm times, please call the main office at 219-558-8811.
